Different Materials, Different Board Weights, how it affects in surfing

In this lesson we will see how the weight of the boards can vary, depending on the material used in their construction, and how this affects surfing.

We saw in the class on buoyancy how the Archimedes principle can be applied to the surfboard to understand its buoyancy.

That is, we know that if the weight of the body is less than the thrust exerted, the object will float.

First thing that needs to be clear: Talking about epoxy or polyester boards is not correct. Epoxy or Polyester are just the resins used in its lamination, and both resins have practically the same weight. I mean, it has nothing to do with it. What really matters is the core material, which does have a weight difference.

As a basis for comparison, we will use EPS, PU, ​​and hollow wooden surfboards.

I will explain and show you why despite the weight difference, the buoyancy difference is minimal. I will also show this with numbers and the percentage of float difference between the three types of board (which is minimal).
