Lesson 13 - Rails

In this class we will study the rails of the board. Know what role a surfboard plays, and why its shape is so important

The rails is the part of the board that connects the deck with the bottom, that is, the side of the board.

The rails is the main interface between the surfboard and the wave

The functioning of a surfboard is strongly linked to the way the rails of the board interacts with the water flow of the wave, which is one of the main factors in the hydrodynamics of a board.

A surfboard can stick to the wave wall because part of the wave's water flow hits the bottom of the board and flows over the rounded rails.

To understand hydrodynamics, we can study the edge of the board from two points of analysis, first the rails according to its shape. And then the rails according to its thickness.
