LESSON 3 - Drag
In this lesson we will see what drag is all about. And how this force acts on the surfboard.
There are two forms of drag that affect surfboards, surface drag and shape drag.
I will explain the two forms of drag and will correlate with high and low speed situations.
The drag acts mainly at low speed, when we are paddling to catch the waves. Understanding about this phenomenon is therefore fundamental to develop surfboards with high efficiency in paddling. For example, what is the relationship between rocker, flotation, board width and paddling efficiency?
You will understand perfectly through animations that were designed to explain all the mechanics behind surfing.
