Welcome to the Online Alaia Workshop!
If you’ve already taken one of our courses, you know how it works. If this is your first experience with us, let me introduce you to how the course is structured:
Our courses are called Workshops because they are not theoretical courses. Here, you will be working hands-on with me, just like in our in-person workshops. The only difference is that I’ll be on the other side of the screen. But that doesn’t mean you won’t have my support!
I am fully committed to all students in our Support Community, which is hosted on Telegram. We use this app because it allows you to see all previous messages and media, keeping all questions and discussions about the courses saved. If you’re not part of it yet, contact us, and I’ll send you the link to join (exclusive for students).
Besides my support, you will have access to video lessons and theoretical materials in PDF, including blueprints for different types of Alaia and Paipo boards. All of this is available in the Course Files section, next to the lesson player. With this course, you will be able to build X different types of boards.
About Materials & Tools:
As explained on the Course Page, this is a 100% online course, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have our support. You can find the right wood, proper materials, and ideal tools anywhere in the world. I guarantee this because we have students from all over the world. No matter where you are, what matters is your willingness to start!
We use Paulownia wood as the standard. Besides that, you will need:
✔ A hand plane
✔ A rasp
✔ A handsaw
✔ Sandpaper
✔ A ruler
✔ Some type of waterproofing oil
With these tools, you can already start building your Alaias! No power tools are required. However, in this course, I teach both methods. So if you want to become a manufacturer and produce on a larger scale, you will also gain that knowledge.
At the end of the course, contact us, send us a photo of your finished board, and we’ll send you your Alaia Shaper Certificate.
I hope you enjoy and make the most of the course.
Best regards,
David Weber
